Maternal and Child Nutrition
Overview:
Improving maternal and infant nutrition is a key priority for NHS Ayrshire & Arran and its partners. The Maternal & Infant Nutrition Programme Board has representation from NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Public Health team, Maternity Services, Health Visiting and Family Nurse Services, the Maternity and Community specialist infant feeding teams, the Dietetic Health Improvement team, Childsmile team, Early Years teams from North, South and East Ayrshire Councils, and colleagues from the National Childbirth Trust as a third sector partner.
The Maternal & Infant Nutrition Programme Board have developed a joint action plan (2023-2026) and its role is to oversee its implementation. Quarterly updates are provided to the Infant, Children & Young Peoples Transformational Change Programme Board and an annual report is submitted to Scottish Government. Activities are focused on supporting women with healthy eating during pregnancy, promoting and protecting breastfeeding, ensuring safe infant formula feeding practices, giving practical support to parents on introducing their baby onto solid foods, and good nutrition for children under the age of 5.
